FAQ
Cold therapy
Everything you need to know about cold therapy.
What is cold therapy?
Cold therapy involves immersing the body in cold or ice-cold water to promote health and treat disease. The basic idea is that cold water relieves pain by constricting blood vessels and reducing blood flow to the area. Forms of cold therapy include ice baths, cold showers, cold water immersion, cold pools, or cryochambers.
Just as Dr. Susanna Søberg and Dr. Andrew Huberman recommend, we are also convinced that ice baths offer enormous benefits. Not only physically but also psychologically, they can help enormously.
For more information, check out the overview of benefits or our blog post about benefits.
What is the minimum temperature?
Officially, the water temperature for an ice bath is around 10-15°C. According to current studies, however, the desired health benefits can be achieved at temperatures as low as 20°C.
We recommend starting in the upper temperature range and then slowly getting used to the cold. Adjust the water temperature to your current condition and goals.
When and how often should I take an ice bath?
In general
There are studies that show that just 11 minutes a week, spread over 2-3 days, significantly stimulates the metabolism. 2-3 minutes per ice bath would be ideal.
Start in the upper temperature range, slowly get used to the cold and then slowly work your way down - give your body time. Focus on your breathing during the ice bath and try to relax.
Ideally directly after getting up in the morning to make the most of the release of adrenaline and endorphins. If you are looking for general physical and mental health, you can integrate it into your daily routine when it suits you best.
Endurance / regeneration
If you want to improve your endurance, you should cool down before, during or after training.
To promote regeneration and prevent muscle soreness, an ice bath is recommended after training.
Strength and muscle building
If you want to build muscle and/or strength, you should not ice bath directly after training. Before training or at the earliest 4 hours afterwards is ideal.

How much ice do I need for an ice bath?
An easy way to get started is to add ice before you buy a complete system with cooler, filter and pump.
At the bottom of the page you will find our ice bath calculator, which you can use to calculate how much ice you need to cool down an ice bath properly.
How much can I save by using a cooler instead of ice?
Two examples of different ice requirements per ice bath at an average cost of CHF 18 per 10kg of ice:
- 10kg per ice bath / 5x per week = 32 weeks (8 months)
- 20kg per ice bath / 5x per week = 16 weeks (4 months)
The PRO cooler would therefore already be amortized after this time.
Further advantages of the cooler:
- no effort for production or purchase of ice
- always the desired temperature
- clean water thanks to integrated filter & ozone disinfection
- at warmer temperatures also possible to reach low temperatures
- money, water & time saving
If you regularly take ice baths, it makes sense to invest in a cooler.
Do I need a cooler?
As you read above, you don't necessarily need a cooler. In winter, the water usually cools down on its own and otherwise you can help with a little ice.
As soon as the outside temperatures get warmer, the water automatically gets warmer and it becomes more difficult to maintain the water temperature (depending on the insulation). It is then worth calculating the ice costs (see ice bath calculator at the bottom of the page), as a cooler then makes financial sense very quickly.
The cooler also contains a pump that circulates the water and therefore keeps it clean for longer. The filter and ozone disinfection then round off the water hygiene and save you frequent water changes.you can set the water temperature you want with the cooler compared to ice and this is then always maintained.

- weight: 32kg vs. 42kg
How often should the cooler run?
For the best water quality, we recommend always leaving the cooler switched on, as it only cools or heats when necessary thanks to the automatic start/stop function. As soon as the set temperature is reached, only the water pump runs, which circulates, filters and enriches the water with ozone.
You can also use the cooler with the timer in the app (PRO models) or connect it to an external timer. However, we recommend at least a few hours per day so that the water does not stand for too long and good water quality can still be guaranteed.
If you do not use the ice bath for a longer period of time, we recommend draining the water and cleaning the tub.
What is ozone disinfection?
The strongest and safest disinfectant for water purification is ozone - stronger than chlorine and bromine and safer because it consists only of pure oxygen. It breaks down to pure oxygen without producing any harmful by-products.
In short, ozone is excellent for water purification and keeps your ice bath clean for a long time.
How do I maintain my ice bath?
Depending on use, you should check the filter every 1-2 weeks by removing it from the housing and rinsing it out. The filter should be changed every 1-2 months depending on use. For optimum performance, replace the filter once a month.
The water should be changed regularly depending on use and clarity. How often depends very much on the use (how often, by how many people, hygiene, ...) and the environment. As soon as the water is too unclear or -clean, we recommend changing the water.
We recommend cleaning the tub with a mild soap and a soft sponge.
We generally recommend showering before ice bathing. Especially if you have used a sauna or done sport beforehand.
Can I use it outside?
Both the tub and the cooler can be used outdoors.
At temperatures below freezing, we recommend emptying the cooler to be on the safe side and taking it inside to prevent the internal pipes from freezing (and in the worst case, leaking). Otherwise, the cooler should always be in operation (without a timer) so that it can heat up if the temperature is too low.
We recommend protecting the device from heavy weather (direct rain/hail) in order to extend the lifespan of the housing and display. Also ensure that the plug remains dry and the socket is earthed (for the RCD).
